Top Math Olympiad Training for Primary School

P3 Term 3&4 Introduction

Primary 3

Course System Introduction

The courses in this stage are divided into two main tracks: the Math High Achiever (MHA) class and the Competition (CO) class, designed to meet the needs of students with different learning goals and development paths.

1. Math High Achiever (MHA) Class

Content Focus: Building a Mathematical Olympiad Knowledge Framework and Advancing School-Level Learning

Stage Goals: Achieve top 10% performance in school mathematics, prepare for HAL selection, and build knowledge reserves for PSLE and P4 SASMO.

Key Teaching Approach: Foster flexible use of mathematical tools and logical analysis skills, combined with systematic exam-oriented training, to establish connections for upper primary mathematics learning.

(1) Expanding School Knowledge Framework and Building Exam Confidence
The P3 MHA curriculum enhances and deepens the MOE syllabus, helping students solidify their school-level foundation and gain confidence in tackling exams such as HAL selection and PSLE.

(2) Refining Competition Knowledge Framework and Developing Deep Thinking Skills
The P3 MHA curriculum also incorporates key content from the SASMO and AMO competition syllabi. In the second half of the year, the program focuses on advanced calculation and extended modules in word problems and geometry, systematically cultivating students' abstract thinking and ability to solve complex problems.

2. Competition Olympiad (CO) Class

Content Focus:Aligning with the syllabi of key upper primary competitions (NMOS, RMO, APMOPS), achieving full coverage of foundational topics by year-end

Stage Goals:Attain P4 RMO Distinction and progressively aim for NMOS Gold, RMO High Distinction, and APMOPS Platinum.

Key Teaching Approach: Conduct systematic training on the core knowledge modules of upper primary competitions, laying a solid foundation for learning at the upper primary level.

(1) Enhancing Core Problem-Solving Skills: Calculation and Word Problems
The P3 Competition Class adopts a spiral learning model, with a focus in the second half of the year on strengthening skills in computation (fractions, ratios, algebraic equations) and practical application (integer, fraction, and speed-based word problems). As calculation and word problems are high-yield question types in upper primary competitions, building a strong foundation in P3 will also support students in tackling more complex advanced problems in P4.

(2) Expanding into New Knowledge Modules: Geometry and Number Theory
In the second half of the year, the P3 Competition Class will introduce new upper-grade knowledge modules, particularly in geometry and number theory. Topics will include in-depth exploration of common geometric models and theorems (e.g., area models of triangles and quadrilaterals), as well as more abstract number theory concepts (primes, factors, and the place value principle). This prepares students with the advanced knowledge required for upper-level competitions.

HAL Selection Exam Planning for New Gifted Students

Starting from 2026, the Primary 3 GEP selection exam will be replaced by the HAL Selection Exam. The new format will only retain the first-round written test, combined with teacher classroom observations, to select the top 10% of students nationwide for school-based enrichment programs. From these, the top 2% will be further selected for centralized enrichment programs. The Ministry of Education has announced the date of the standardized written test: Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Based on the distribution of abilities assessed in past GEP exams, the test evaluates seven mathematical competencies, with the largest weighting on practical application skills (i.e., word problems), followed by logical reasoning and data processing (e.g., combinations and counting) abilities. Think Academy Singapore’s long-term Primary 3 courses include high-frequency test topics from past exams, helping students build a comprehensive knowledge framework.

Additionally, from June to August, we will launch short-term preparation activities to help students enhance their test readiness and achieve excellent results.

These preparation activities are free for enrolled students. Selected activities will also be open to non-enrolled students.

More preparation activities will be announced soon—stay tuned!
